When to dive

Access to the beach is through a farm gate about 20m up the road from the hotel. There is space for 3-4 cars to park off the road - you can park on the beach, but the shingle is soft, so best left to 4x4's!

At low tide the best access is to walk down onto the sand, then follow the edge of the beach to the right, towards the old Post Office. This way there are only a couple of stones between you and the water. At high tide you can swim over the first beach, and the first reef and directly onto the wall.

The beach is pretty sheltered from the weather. I have dived the beach at all states of the tide without problem, (there is a slight current on the most exposed parts of the wall, so I guess take care on springs).

RE: When to dive

When on the wall, you can either turn left, towards Lochaline, or right, further into the Sound. Both are good dives, and have different scenery. Particularly if you turn left, you can swim around the rocky reef that you will have seen from the surface, come up a different sandy slope, and exit by the happily disused sewer pipe.

RE: When to dive

I'm not sure the sewer pipe on the left hand beach is disused - it is a good dive, with some different stuff to see, but don't sue me if you get somit nasty...

RE: When to dive

Just did a fantastic night dive on the wall, was so much life it was untrue. Normally I spend most of my time much deeper on the wall, however a night dive to just 20m gave me lots to look at. Just make sure you have someone on the shore/pub (You can see the dive from the pub...)

Cool  RE: When to dive

Hello fellas. I am planning to enroll in a crash diving course. How long does the full course (immediate to advance) take? Any dive resorts you want to recommend? Thanks a lot! Smile

RE: When to dive

When high tide I usually drive along the seashores to view the beauty of the sunset. During low tide, I used to walk with barefoot. It is really a nice experience when you visit beaches.
