IANTD Courses at Lochaline Dive Centre
Advanced Recreational Trimix
The IANTD Advanced Recreational Trimix Diver course is an introduction to technical diving, covering twinsets, stages and an introduction to decompression diving and using high oxygen decompression mixes. You will also cover the use of helium based trimixes for diving and their ability to reduce narcosis.
The Advanced Recreational Trimix course is an extension of the Recreational Trimix course. As an Advanced Recreational Trimix user you have the advantages of reduced narcosis as well as the ability to use 50% nitrox as a decompression gas, to extend your dive time.
Course length: 3 Days - all hardboat diving
Prerequisites
- Advanced Open Water Diver
- 30 logged dives
- Recreational Trimix Diver – may be taken in conjunction with this course
- Minimum age 15 years
Qualification Limits
- Decompression diving to 45m
- Maximum of 15mins decompression
- Maximum narcotic depth 24m
- Dive using any mixture with 21% to 50% oxygen content as bottom or decompression mix
Equipment required
- Single cylinder with dual outlet valve, or twinset and regulators
- Decompression cylinder and regulator
- SMB and reel
- Appropriate exposure protection and all necessary diving equipment for the environment
Equipment requirements
All gases required for the course are included in the course cost and will be mixed by qualified personnel at the Lochaline Dive Centre gas station and shop. A Land Rover shuttle service from the gas station to the shore/ accommodation is provided.
Although you can hire some equipment for these courses it is advised that you have your own since it is better if you can complete the course in the equipment that you are actually going to use when you go diving.

All technical diver training programmes
- Exposure protection - UK - Dry Suit, preferably crushed neoprene or membrane
- Twinset - preferably with isolating manifold, or independent cylinders (except CCR course)
- 2 primary regulators - one with a 2m long hose attached (except CCR course)
- Dive Computer
- Back up depth, time and decompression information
- Fins
- Mask
- Compass
- Surface alert device - whistle
- 2 cutting devices - preferably knife and another type
- Main torch - preferably umbilical
- Backup torch
- Main reel - approximately 50m of line
- Backup reel
- Orange SMB
- Yellow SMB
- Slate and Pencil
