SOMAP 2009 underway!

The 2009 NAS SOMAP project (Sound of Mull Archaeological Project) is off to a flying start, and this years participants have already begun writing their Blog – take a look at  http://www.mullproject2009.blogspot.com/   which makes for some interesting reading!  Yesterday’s ‘Heritage Day’ centred around the 17th Century wreck off the point by Duart Castle and the official unveiling of Historic Scotland’s new wreck interpretation panel. After diving on the wreck the intrepid ‘somappers’ had a tour of the Castle and put a serious drain on the home-baked cake reserves at the Castle tearoom. Work now begins in earnest on the survey of the wreck of the John Preston, where we are keen to know how much deterioration there has been since the last survey in 1999.
